| | | | I am writing on behalf of Margarito Esquino, who asked me to notify you of the passing of his father, Adrian Esquino Lisco, 69, Great Spiritual Chief of the Indian Nations of El Salvador. Adrian passed away early this morning in the Social Security Hospital of San Salvador after a long battle with diabetes and kidney failure. Adrian was a dear friend as well as a tireless leader who confronted injustice and oppression at great personal sacrifice. We shall miss him dearly. In 2005 Margarito Esquino assumed the position of spiritual chief of the Asociacion Nacional de Indigenas de El Salvador (ANIS), when his father passed the title to him. He beseeches his good friends around the world for solidarity and assistance in this difficult time. The funeral will be held on Monday, September 10 beginning at 3:00 pm. The procession will leave the offices of ANIS in Sonsonate and march to San Ramon by way of El Temascal, ending at the San Antonio del Monte Cemetery, where the great chief will be buried next to his father, Chief Rosendo Esquina Ceren.
